Once upon a time, we used to try to do those really cute newborn sessions- you know, the ones where you stick them in a basket and wrap them in cheesecloth and top it with an adorable bear hat. We did try, because we thought that’s what newborn sessions were supposed to be. Then, we discovered 2 things… #1, there are A LOT of talented photographers who specialize in that kind of portraiture, and they’re experts at doing exactly that kind of session. We didn’t want to cheat our clients out of those cute photos if that’s what they wanted. They could get an “okay” session from us, or exactly what they wanted from an expert photographer. #2 There was another avenue- one that we are good at, and there was still a need for. Lifestyle photography is our jam! Apparently, not all the families want cheesecloth wrapped babies stuffed in baskets! Of course- there is absolutely NO PROBLEM for the families that want that look (we’re huge fans of it when it’s done well and there are a handful of people we’re fans of for that very reason). It’s popular for a reason, but we knew we couldn’t deliver that.
What we could deliver, was a loving family welcoming home a beautiful child. We could capture the warmth, the love, the newness, the messiness, the sweetness, the messy diapers, and all the emotions in between. We could capture life, what it was like in those first few weeks as a new family unit. Anyone who has welcomed a new little one into their family can tell you those first few weeks are a BLUR – little sleep, adjusting to 100 different things, the rapid pace those little humans grow in just a week… when you look back in 5 years, it’s almost impossible to sift out things too clearly (probably how some portions of college felt, but for different reasons lol). We all know everything changes, especially when it’s the first baby. We love that. We love love. For all the families in the world that want a lifestyle newborn session- we would LOVE to capture it. To the families that want traditional newborn portraiture- we would love to recommend a list of talented, wonderful photographers to fit your needs. We want everyone to win!
In this blog post, we are capturing Baby Willow and her parents… and her oldest Yorkie sibling!!! Now, you all know we love pets, and if we walk into your house with a camera and there’s a fur baby around, we’re going to photograph it too. It’s just gonna happen. You cannot stop us, well you can’t stop one of us at least. We hope you dig this beautiful family’s blog post. They were so sweet, soooooo sweet! Enjoy!!!
