First things first, let’s hit the obvious note head-on. LunahZon always has been, and always will be a supporter of love, no matter what shape, size, form, or combination it comes in. It’s sad that such a thing would have to be said in this day and age, but it appears this day and age requires the statement to be made loudly and clearly! A couple years ago, same-sex couples in NC were still fighting for the right to be married and we cheered right along with our brothers and sisters who teetered on the same rights Debby & myself already enjoyed – to be married to the one they love! Ever since the law went into effect, I’ll not mince words – we were excited to learn who our first same-sex wedding would be! I honestly couldn’t be happier that Tracie (a bubbly, sweet, talented artist who I met on a Carolina Bride shoot years ago) was the person to earn that title! When I first met Tracie, I was floored and honored that she already knew of our work and was quite a cheerleader for us – I did a bit of a happy dance inside. I was equally thrilled when Tracie introduced us to her fiance, Dana, and asked us to take part in their wedding during the fall of 2016!
Dana and Tracie are two people after our own hearts… appreciators of a good beer (seriously – Dana brews her own and knows more than most “beer people” I’ve met in Charlotte, just ask her), lovers of adventure, cuddlers of big sweet puppies, and able to roll with whatever situation is thrown their way. That seems like a good segue to mention that Tracie and Dana’s wedding JUST HAPPENED to fall on the weekend in October that Hurricane Matthew decided to come see what the Carolinas were all about.
From the moment we stepped foot at their rehearsal through to their exit – they never once let the crazy weather of the weekend besmirch their special day! In awesome, “make lemonade” fashion, they did a first look on the front porch of the Beaver Dam House, moved their cocktail hour to BEFORE the ceremony to buy themselves some time until the rain was due to leave, and when it looked like it wasn’t going to let up – they ran out into the rain and got hitched anyway! (PS – it absolutely made for hysterical laughter from Tracie herself when they were supposed to water their unity tree… “thanks for handling that for us” I believe is what she said to the clouds when the time came… all with a huge grin). The rain DID stop for a little bit post ceremony – and we were able to get all of their family photos, along with some killer shots of just the two of them during our reprieve! We hope you feel all the love in these pictures that we felt being there – it was EVERYWHERE! Enjoy!
