We tell people all the time that we hate using the world “clients” when referring to the people we work with because, more often than not, they end up being family when all is said and done. Sometimes, we’re lucky enough to work with people who were pretty much family YEARS before we get to capture their wedding. Thus is the case with Desmond. So – quick backstory:
LZP started in late summer 2007 and pretty early into that time, we reached out to the Tosco Music Parties to ask if we could shoot the event (since, for anyone not in the know, we got our start shooting concerts and musicians). John Tosco was gracious enough to let us come and do our thing, despite the fact we were still a LOOOOOOONG way from the photogs we are today. We met a number of people that are still with us today, but for this post, we’ll focus on the 13/14-ish Desmond Myers who played guitar with the enthusiasm and skill that were well beyond his years. Desmond even grew up barely 10 minutes away from where I (Jeremy) did! We struck up a friendship and followed his musical career over the years, even when he moved to Germany on his own at the age of 19 (learning a lot of the language by translating Harry Potter)! We’d chat online, work on the occasional promo photos, see him whenever he had time on a trip home, and cheer him on from afar – knowing he was destined to do awesome things. We’re even able to say that the one music video we’ve ever filmed was for this guy! One day, we get told that we need to meet this fabulous woman that Desmond had met – Meg… and I haven’t told you this part about Desmond yet, but that fellow is the BIGGEST hopeless romantic you could ever chance to meet. Seriously – I’m one of the most ridiculous ones out there and he has me beat, so when I say that he was gushing more than normal about her, please understand that it’s not to be taken lightly! So these two Americans (she’s from Alabama) find each other while both living in Europe and decide that they don’t want to spend the rest of their life with anyone else… and I concur, they are freakin ADORABLE together!
So, that’s how you find yourself looking at pictures of this day, but there’s even more to it. Desmond’s dad passed away a little while ago and their family was incredibly close. When it came time to decide on the “where” for their wedding, it was decided that they would get married on the family farm that Desmond had grew up on so his father’s presence could still be felt… and I can attest, it was! Even the ring that he gave her during the ceremony had a story to it (again – that hopeless romantic stuff rearing its head)! We genuinely do love all our couples and are so proud to take part in all the weddings that we do, but I don’t know that many can hold as near and dear a place in my own heart as this one did. It truly was like watching my own brother getting married and just wanting to hug the ever loving junk outta both of them the whole day! They renovated the “junk building” beside the house and turned it into the reception hall, friends from all over the world joined, John Tosco himself was part of the performers during the ceremony… it really was as close to a fairytale, love-story wedding as I could imagine. Okay – enough smushy rambling from me – go look at some pictures and see for yourself!
