This is a really special session. We visited Minneapolis, and got to shoot with this brilliant child! The backstory is, a few years ago, we were at the Carolina Renaissance Festival. There’s a performer there that is near and dear to our hearts, Twig the Fairy. So one day a few years ago, we were passing by Twig the Fairy, and this cute little gnome child was getting some magic stones. Well, she kept asking for them, and Twig kept giving them to her, to the point where there were too many to hold. She kept asking, and Twig kept giving them to her; by this time she folded the bottom of her dress to her waist to form a pocket to hold them all. They kept falling out, and she kept bending over to pick them up. And the more she tried to pick them up, the more they started to fall out, all the while Twig the Fairy, being the funny magical being she is, still, kept giving them to her. It became a spectacle that a crowd of patrons got to enjoy.
Fast forward a few years later, to when we were working on a special Twig the Fairy DVD, and while we were filming, we met Victoria (hint: she’s a goblin in the DVD.) We were chatting with her, and naturally she was telling us about her children. She started talking about a child in particular who decided at the ripe age of 2 or 3 that she wanted to be a gnome, and even gave herself a name: Joy (it was previously “Greedy” because she loved collecting stones, but she changed it later because she thought “Joy” was a better thing to bring to the world). She has kept this character up through out the years! She is just FULL of imagination and light.
OH! I forgot to mention that when we met Victoria, the mother of the Gnome… we were filming in Minneapolis. NOT North Carolina. We were elated to find the funny mysterious Gnome girl again. So- this year when we visited Minneapolis.. we could NOT resist doing a shoot with her. So here she is: Joy the Gnome!!! And towards the end- just a little bit of Thor. Because… Thor. 🙂
